Tasting Thursday: La Parcela, Jolly Pumpkin & Basic Becky, Prairie Artisan Ales

Yes, we’re drinking pumpkin beers on Halloween. Don’t call us basic.

On this Tasting Thursday, we got in the spooky spirit with La Parcela, a sour pumpkin brew from Jolly Pumpkin in Michigan, and Basic Becky, an imperial stout with pumpkin and fall spices from Prairie Artisan Ales in Oklahoma.

La Parcela is a sour pumpkin ale (Jolly Pumpkin's ONLY pumpkin beer) with Perle and Vanguard hops, Pilsner and Vienna malt (among others), pumpkin, pumpkin spice, and cacao nibs. I mean, talk about fall flavors. We thought the spiced notes went really well with the not-too-tart sour flavor.

Basic Becky, despite the name, is anything but basic. At 11% and with a thick smooth body, this beer is not messing around. We noticed the aromas first: pumpkin, spices, and vanilla, promising the taste would be reminiscent of all things fall — and the flavor certainly delivered.

If you can get your hands on these seasonal offerings, you need to. Let us know what other pumpkin beers you love in the comments!
