Back End Engineering Manager

Ekos is on a mission to empower craft manufacturers all over the world to scale their business, streamline their processes, and optimize their teams. We are seeking a Back End Engineering Manager to be a part of our engineering and engineering leadership team. The Back End Engineering Manager will support the server side of the team, develop, and manage team members. This role is a player / coach role. This position will sit on the engineering side of the organization while assisting the product, marketing and customer success / support group. This role reports to the VP of Engineering.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who is motivated, comfortable with multi-tasking and taking ownership of their work, as well as enjoy proactively searching for innovative solutions to complex problems. In order to help ensure all aspects of this multifaceted position are performed as expected, measurable metrics will be provided along with regularly scheduled performance reviews.

What you'd be doing:

·       Direct your team’s technical decisions, break large-scale problems into manageable phases and quickly deliver solutions to the business

·       Be a hands-on player and a coach. You possess the capability to push your team's abilities in growing them individually and as a unit, while also remaining hands on yourself in developing our applications and tools

·       Identify opportunities to develop new strategies and improve business performance

·      Advanced debugging skills (ex: C# .net, MS SQL)

·      Continuously looks for opportunities for improvement/efficiencies in the codebase they support

·      Can actively produce consistent, quality code in line with our CodingStandards

·      Execute and hit deadlines as well as provide timely feedback if the scope is incorrect

·      Collaborate with the Engineering team and other engineering leaders, QA, and the Product Management team to develop the best solution based on structured requirements

·      Scope and develop timelines for all back-end code tasks/projects

·      Support and mentor fellow team members in the completion of their tasks

·       Follow administration guidelines of all technical facets as presented by CTO and within prescribed policy limits and applicable Federal / State laws and regulations

·       Supervise team activities in accordance with the policies, procedures and goals established by the Management Team

·       Participate in application development meetings and assist in implementing action items as needed

·       Strong business acumen/tech translator

·      Oversee software development utilizing, Familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and React is a plus but not required

·      Manage the production of design documents and unit tests, and other document requirements


In House Support and Communication


·      Actively participate in design and code reviews

·      Drive continuous improvement and efficiency through recommending process enhancements and additional features

·      Stay abreast of development methodologies, competitors, and advances in technology

·      Work with other departments as needed to find solutions to customer concern or complaints

·      Research and identify cause of reported defects and issues

·      Diagnose defects within the software and develop defect fixes

·      Perform and assist with quality assurance activities as needed

·      Participate in training and / or customer support activities as needed

·      Complete additional projects as needed

What we'd like to see:

·       Minimum 5 years, preferred 7 years web application development experience

·       Experience as an engineering team lead, and managing direct reports

·       Strong foundational knowledge of C#,.net and .net core, MS SQL, AWS

·       Git version control

·       Experience with git flow branching process

·       Experience working with PR processes

·       Experience with CI/CD process

·       Build systems: gulp, grunt, Webpack, NPM, Bower

·       Ability to debug and troubleshoot

·       Experience with server-side performance monitoring tools/techniques

·       Expert ability to scope and timeline a technical front-end project, with the understanding and ability to collect the required inputs on their own

·       Understanding of technical concepts (API’s, modular concepts)

·       Experience developing scalable RESTful APIs using Web API for B2B/B2C applications

·       Experience with Agile/Scrum practices

·       Strong organizational skills with an eye for detail

·       Ability to work independently as well as in a group setting

·       Strong leadership skills

·       Must be able to work from office located in Charlotte, NC

·       Experience leading small teams or serving as a technical lead within an organization

·       Analytical and detail-oriented minds with decisive judgement skills

·       The ability to prioritize, strategize, execute and deliver projects on time

·       Have the aptitude to learn new tools, technologies, languages, and platforms
