With the dream of providing top quality, uniquely flavorful beer that appeals to passionate and progressive individuals, brothers Davin and Kellan Bartosch opened the doors to Wiseacre Brewing Co. in fall of 2013. The brewery produces 20,000 barrels a year, recently expanded with a larger production facility and currently distributes to fourteen states.
The brewery needed a business management software to manage inventory, production, sales, and accounting — especially as they expanded from one location to two locations. Wiseacre Brewing Co. found themselves missing out on potential sales opportunities due to the lack of visibility into what inventory was available and where it was stored. This ineffective inventory management made it clear to the team that they needed a change, especially as they spread their inventory across both locations.
Scaling to the larger production facility wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Ekos. “It has been instrumental in our recordkeeping in helping us evaluate what we have at each building because we are regularly transferring inventory — finished goods, raw materials, and merchandise — between our two locations,” said Amanda Thompson, Chief of Staff at Wiseacre Brewing Co. Ekos provided the team with complete transparency, increasing its value twofold when the second facility opened.
Without Ekos, the team would have a less firm handle on inventory and a higher margin of loss. With this increased visibility into inventory, Wiseacre Brewing Co. is able to entertain all sales opportunities that come in without worrying about having enough product. Instead of relying on manual spreadsheets, Ekos makes it easy to track historical data and trace mistakes — allowing the team to have fewer inventory write-offs. When there are write-offs, the team can use the reports in Ekos to find ways to avoid them in the future.
Along with tracking inventory, Ekos helps make compliance reporting and state taxes easier for the administrative team. With all the detail that goes into the reports, it would take about three days for the reports to be done manually. Instead, Ekos allows the team to fit three days of work into an hour.
